No matter how many times I am reminded of it, one study of my adopted state of Kansas scares me more than the idea of my Jayhawks losing in March Madness: our grade of D- for teacher quality and our F grade for our inability to remove ineffective instructors. These grades, assigned by the National Center on Teacher Quality’s (NCTQ) 2009 report, paint a bleak picture for the state of Kansas’ education system – and one that shows no sign of improvement.
